    yep, I have these black strips-along the bottom of the doors right? I'm not sure of the rust situ under them, but having another look today the sills don't look too bad. I think I'll have a try at removing the steps this weekend, then see what's what.

    this happened to my in my disco the other day, coming down an fffing steep hill at the lro show in driff... turned out i was a bit low on brake fluid, and mud had got caked around the calipers and discs-all sorted when topped up and mud was washed off. did it happen off road?

    Cheers Richard, yep I was trying it in N. The powers of WD40 eh? Unclipped the transfer lever gaiter today, sprayed some WD40, left it for a bit and now I can get it in Low range-still a bit stiff so sprayed some more just now. Thanks everyone for helping with this-now looking forward to...
