    loosing coolant

Can you see any physical leaks? How much coolant lost? It could be there is still air lock in the system. It will get pushed out eventually and it looks like something is leaking as you will see level drop in the tank. but yes, go back to dealer who fixed it before its too late...

KV6 Thermostat on Rover and Freelander

thats exactly what my understanding...and if you read more closely in RAVE it says "When the temperature of the bypassing coolant reaches 82....C (180....F), the thermostat begins to open, allowing 'cold' coolant from the radiator bottom hose into the pump inlet and hot coolant from the cylinder...

have you looked at MHM termostat video? its a totally different mechanism than other thermostat. I dont understand really how it works and why it design like that.

KV6 Thermostat on Rover and Freelander

If your theory its correct that means the flows doesnt go into the head but out from the head mix with the water from radiator and bypass path through the water pump. If you lift the bottom plate up, does the main thermostat open?

KV6 Thermostat on Rover and Freelander

What do you think about shorten those springs? What sort of affect will it has? i think it will open allow the thermostat to open earlier than the stated temp seting.

KV6 Thermostat on Rover and Freelander

So my propose bypass would make much different then?! because the bypass has valve controlling the flow. I think removing th bottom spring loaded blanking section is a good idea and I am too not sure how this would affect the flows as I dont understand how it actually works.

    Hot or Cold

I heard this before in this forum but when I asked the detail he didnt response back. How am I going to use this on my KV6 but? So in your case in you use 82 degree one you dont need to make holes then...but again small flow through the hole from radiator is much better I reckon.

    Hot or Cold

LR1796: do you have the link to the thread at MG forum where they doing similar mod (bypassing) ? CharlesY: with KV6 where it is impossible drilling holes on the thermostat, what is your suggestion? what do you think about this mod...

    hgf or not?

It looks like the oil is leaking to the cooling system. It is worst than coolant in oil as it can overheat the engine and leads to HGF. If it is KV6, it may be the oil cooler. Not sure with 1.8 but you better get it checked.

    Hot or Cold

I read alot of articles about this and most of them are happy with it. If it does work as describe on redline website, I think it will also reduce the htermal shock issue as the temp of the engine and the coolant will be closer (at least by 10 degree). As the coolant will absorb more of the heat...
