    Genuine parts Vs others.

I've just bought replacement ball joints for the front axle on the P38. Given what a pig of a job it is, I bought OEM parts rather than pattern as I dont want to have to do it again. I think each job in turn and its difficulty has a lot to do with parts bought. I mean you wouldnt bother...

I agree Sean, I was trying to help the OP with his problem rather than jonb76, which does sound significantly different and far more expensive

    300tdi clutch alignment

if you go down the route of a universal clutch alignment tool, make sure it does actually fit both the spigot bearing and friction plate. The one I have does have a suitable collet for the friction plate but I had to wind some electrical tape around the largest end so that it was a better fit...

    Stuck cant find it

Forgot to say the only individual replacement parts in Microcat I could see are the glass and the mirror clip. Anything else requires a complete mirror, typically selling at around £50 plus postage on egay.

    Stuck cant find it

Hi dopey, have just had a similar problem with mine. Unfortunately, you cant buy the cover as a seperate item, or at least i couldn't find one, and its not listed in Microcat as an individual item. Also when you get the old one off, make a note of the number of pins in the electrical...

    Autobox oil change

If you do decide to do it, it can turn out to be a very messy job as the 2002 gearbox doesnt have a dipstick. To fill the box its a question of fill till it overflows from the filler hole, with the engine running. Then go through all of the gears, and recheck level by topping up until it...

    P38s........

I run a '99 4.6 with the Thor engine. Its a fantastic piece of kit (when working properly) and wouldn't think twice about buying another one. I've been pretty fortunate with mine, having only a few minor niggles compared to some on here. I now know the things I should have checked a bit more...

    Pto for a disco??

Boomer V8 has got a PTO on his V8 Disco 1. other than the PTO its a std R380 box and transfer box. I believe that a PTO can be retro-fitted to an R380, however the amount of additional work that had been done to the rest of the car in order to get the pto shaft out to the rear of the vehicle...

Dont think the price is bad especially given teh new tyres. I would think a good 200 engine should fetch 250 - 300 as lots of people are looking to retro fit into older land rovers now.

My erm..friend needs help with his Hipp.......Freelander

When lookin for a replacement pump, i found lots of different part numbers quoted so there must be a lot of different applications including the 1.8 kettle. I'm assuming (possibly wrongly) that its just the diseasels that suffer from this. And just for info my pump failed at 56K miles on a...

My erm..friend needs help with his Hipp.......Freelander

Exactly, however in the case of my failed pump, the filter was totally covered the stuff, to the point wher yu could no longer see it. I'm sure this must be the root cause of a lot of premature pump failures.

My erm..friend needs help with his Hipp.......Freelander

Problem update: Well I fitted a new in tank pump last night and the Hippo lives again. I managed to aquire a brand new unit for £150 which didn't seem too bad considering some of the prices I've seen. When lookin into the tank I could see some traces of the slime which had clogged the pump...
