ive never heard a skittish rear end to be a problem, it could be the A frame ball joint allowing the axle to rock slightly, or one of the trailing arm bushes have completely gone and the axle can move out of allignment
have you checked all the track rod ends and lubricated the steering Uj's in the engine bay to see if it makes a difference, also check how easy the front wheels are to turn when they are jacked up before writing off the pump
suppose thats landrovers for you, one person might lift their disco 2 inches and everything fails instantly, others run bigger lifts for ages without problems :doh: madness
