    Lack of low down power

No power low down? but power higher up? Doesn't sound like fuel pressure. Could be a turbo issue. Any smoke? any amigos on?

1998 freelander 1.8 not starting. what can it be?

I see your knowledge has failed to keep up with fuel injection and drive by wire. On at leasts one car I have had, flooring the throttle is how you CLEAR the flooding. In this case I am beginning to think it is flooded and that it may well be a temperature sensor at fault.

Problems with rear wiper AND rear window winder

    GEARBOX woes

I found a diag and it looks like its in line with the oil filler cap but a few inches to the right and down on the bell housing. I suppose cleaning the cam sensor didn't sort anything out then?

    GEARBOX woes

Right I am not good on that engine but te camshaft sensor will be at one end of the camshaft and I think the crank sensor is down around the bell housing somewhere.

Odd clinking noise and lumpy running.

What worries me is that clinky noise means low fuel and black smoke means too much fuel Horrible feeling piston may have gone or crank bearing... Get ready for bad news

    rear wiper bypass wiring

I'd recommend simply getting the window working. I did mine and a full write up on it as well somewhere in here. It is with a mate, a couple of not too bad hours most of which are spent making it align as perfectly as possible. Before you order anything strip the rear lining off the door...

    GEARBOX woes

Might be a random fault affecting all the cylinders of an electrical sort - corroded connector or ground etc etc. Or some crap affecting the crank sensor

    i need some advise

If the tyres are completely different change the tyres FIRST. You may find the VCU problem is really down to being constantly in play especially in reverse.

1998 freelander 1.8 not starting. what can it be?

Ah. It coughs does it? Whip a plug out and see if its wet. You may have a temp sensor or whatever floods the engine with fuel on cold days up the creek. I flooded my brand new xk8 like that. Called the man in. He floored the throttle and that apparently did something that cleared it and after...

Won't start after reconditioned fuel injector pump fitted

On my older TD4 it worked - I used to slam the rear door actually - for about 2 months before I had to get it trailered to the garage when it just wouldn't start at all.

    GEARBOX woes

Stab in te dark. Years ago I had a random misfire on me spitfire. I only got to look at it at dusk when I arrived at me mates house and then it was obvious what was happening. Sparks tracking down a load of carbonised oil that was on the coil cap. they had burnt cracks into the insulator so I...

1998 freelander 1.8 not starting. what can it be?

a few degrees out on timing wont stop and engine running. I dont think that's the problem. Unless there is a crankshaft position sensor on the cam shafts when the spark may be well out - but even then you should get a kick. I think you are in the wrong place. If the fuel pump doesn't start...

should my fuel burning heater come on...

Hmm. Mine is behaving most oddly. For instance, today I drove about 50 miles there at midday, and 50 miles back at 10pm On the way there, it climbed to around '10 O-clock' and stuck there a bit, then I hit traffic and it suddenly popped to 12 O-clock, and stayed there or thereabouts for the...
