Temp gauge @ 12:00 but aircon fans on a lot!

Drove it around in order to get it hot enough! Pump and rad are only a few months old and thermostat was also replaced about 12 months ago. Fan definitely shot!!

Temp gauge @ 12:00 but aircon fans on a lot!

Update: Got engine warm enough to start aircon fans and then did newspaper test - blades stopped so easily I could have probably got away with using a feather :) Anyway parts ordered from suggested supplier (thanks for info Datatek) and will arrive tomorrow, I've removed the fan and cowl...

Temp gauge @ 12:00 but aircon fans on a lot!

Hi Datatek, Yes the light is on. I've just driven home through town (about 6 miles) and the fans didn't come on. However it is typical British summer today - cool and wet - but if it had been warmer they would have definitely come on. I lifted the bonnet when I got in, switched the engine off...

Temp gauge @ 12:00 but aircon fans on a lot!

If it is 'hovering' in the first stages of overheat, would the gauge rise when actually towing? Although I haven't been away yet this year I have taken the tin tent for a service (only about a 15 mile journey that included motorway and town) but the gauge still did not go above its now 'normal'...

Temp gauge @ 12:00 but aircon fans on a lot!

I've owned it nearly 5 years and am friends with previous owner who had it for about 3 years. He's not the sort to do an aircon fan conversion but I will ask him. The viscous fan is still fitted and still works. Out of interest where would the 'small box' be?

Temp gauge @ 12:00 but aircon fans on a lot!

I changed the thermostat some time ago because my RR always ran cool unless towing my tin tent. Since then it has always run at 12:00 but the aircon fans run a lot (not using aircon though). The rad is new and so is the water pump. Is this normal? Lenb

What did you do with your Range Rover today

    (horrendous) fuel economy!

Must admit most of my journeys are pretty short on average, perhaps doing one 20 mile 'trip' each week (and that includes going through town. Not particularly hilly around here (and not flat either) and I drive 'sensibly' (whatever that really means .... not too fast and not too slow :confused...

    (horrendous) fuel economy!

Cranking speed is fine :) Glowplugs never been changed in the time I've owned it. Will check with previous owner (friend) if he had them changed and when. I know he would have bought good ones. I have only had this over the last few nights when it has beed particularly cold. Starting at any...

    (horrendous) fuel economy!

I seem to be averaging 19/20 mpg (£30 = 90 miles) and would love to get 24/25 mpg like datatek. My 2000 DHSE has 117k and I'm about to check my leak off pipes again, starting these cold mornings is a pig (4 tries this morning). Don't know how long they last but I've already replaced once since...

What mileage is your Range Rover P38 on? (1994 to 2002)

7 miles off 114k, it's my daily transport and tows my 24ft caravan. I've done over 30k since buying it and only had wear & tear work to do on it (Inc Arnott's all round). Lenb

to chip or not to chip?

Been driving my dhse chipped since I bought it 3 years ago. It's done 112,000 and hasn't missed a beat in 30,000 miles but I removed the chip about 2 months ago when I renewed my ins and they quoted 'silly money' and also required fitting by a Land Rover approved fitter and an engineers report...

    275/45/20 Cooper Zeon XST Pressures?

    275/45/20 Cooper Zeon XST Pressures?

Hi Folks, I know similar questions have been asked in the past so my apologies, but I have tried searching and can't find the answer. What pressures should I be running these at on my P38 DHSE. I'm sure the dealer that sold the wheels and tyres to me said 32 psi all round. but the owners...

New Magazine - Range Rover World

That's why I very rarely post ..... too many going off topic :( Anyway if you look at the publishers website Welcome to KELSEY Publishing Online and click on books you will find it there. It seems as though it may be a one off but still a good read if you own a P38 and onwards. Although that...

New Magazine - Range Rover World

Must admit I 'chipped' both of mine because of the sluggish performance, but I'm determined that I am not going to get paranoid about reliability. Like I say I've had no problems and when this one is ready for changing I will hopefully go for a later model (sport or L322) ........ Oops! Am I now...
