What have you done to your Landie today.

found the problem. my rear diff decided to come say hello. I have a nice hole in my diff pan now. looks like the disco is staying parked up for now then. at least until I get a new rear axle. can anyone confirm if the 4 bolt 24 spline diffs will fit front or rear. or have they got to be for...

What have you done to your Landie today.

OK that knocking and clonking must have been more than the box oils. I have lost all drive unless in diff lock but after a while of diff lock it decided that we needed to stop and brought me to a skidding halt tried again with no d/l got 400yards down the road and lost drive again put it back in...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Had knocking and clonking on the way home so figured it needed checking. Found that the box breathers must be blocked as both boxes were filled past the mark with watery mayonnaise. Dropped both and renewed and greased props and a frame ball joint. Now just hope that's cured the knocking

    Painting components underneath

I've used halfrauds enamel black with their red oxide primer on my front axle and that's lasted a few trips to yarwell so far. I used to hammerite everything but its crap now so I'm looking for other solutions. Ronseals no more rust is crap aswell. I did my rock sliders and winch bumper with it...

    play in front swivel

Fishing scales or luggage scales. Take the steering rods off and check how much force the scales read to make it turn via the steering rod connecting holes. It should be between 7-9lbs if its less, and mine would flop then remove the 2 bolts out the top of the swivel pin.(where the brake hose...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Replaced the rearmost uj with a spare I had laying around that's taken care of most of the vibration now just need to check the swivel preloads and hope that cures the rest of it if not then the only thing left is wheel balance

What have you done to your Landie today.

Greased the hell out of the rear prop uj then drove to work with noticeably less vibration so greased the rest of the points underneath and decided tomorrow the uj is getting replaced

What have you done to your Landie today.

Ok just played about with a spare prop end I have laying about to get a better idea of the workings. Looks like I'll be taking some tools into work tomorrow to attack it and get it swapped out and see the difference. Think I may have been thrown off the scent of the problem with fitting the...

What have you done to your Landie today.

The a frame is polybushed to the chassis and has a gwyn lewis adjustable greaseable ball joint. My rear prop does have play in the diff end uj. But would this cause the steering wheel to vibrate?

What have you done to your Landie today.

    Brake fade

as above. brake fade is from overheating. generally the fluid boils due too age and it having sucked moisture in from the atmosphere. a change of fluid is a cheap and relatively easy job. due to you having to ask I would guess that your knowledge of the braking system isn't that great so I would...
