    If it was mechanical I reckon the noise would be there sll the time. Just had a truck engine in bits for a few days, and the moisture in the air done two of the injectors in, £830 each! Had terrible knock when rebuilt, immediately thought uhoh what have I done wrong. Spoke to one of the truck...

    common rail injectors are fussy little buggers, slightest thing can bugger them up.

    Think long and hard about keeping it, guy down the club had new engine fitted by LR, they did not clean out debris from the intercooler pipework, which promptly destroyed the new engine!

    It certainly looks like steam in how it settles down, but if it smells poignant as you suggest then I would say it could be fuel related, any coolant should be burnt off within a few hundred kms at the most, unless you are doing very short journeys. I assume it is not using any coolant/oil etc...

    Google Ingenium engine issues, timing chains seems to be a favourite fail point. Remember codes can only tell you what they see, and they generally cannot see mechanical issues.

    Very good point, 1.4 to discos 1.2, that would explain the difference in get up and go.
