    Freelander 1 Tailgate WindowI have

This sounds more like a faulty door lock where the CCU doesn't know if the door is open or closed. It's very common and fairly easy to replace with a good used lock. If the interior light stays on with the door closed or doesn't come on when it's open that will confirm it.

    Freelander 1 Engine removal

There is no point trying to keep the gearbox in as you will need to remove the drive shaft in the IRD anyway. I'm assuming that's why you want to keep the gearbox in as I can't think of any other reason. Drop the lot as a single lump as suggested above and unbolt as required while on the ground...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Fair point, the diagram clearly shows Pos being switched. I should have known better as I had a go at making mine work a year or so ago but gave up as I struggled to make head nor tail of the diagram and I didn't really need it. My car is in the garage 99% of the time so no snow or ice on it and...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Have you checked you're getting a ground at the windscreen? I believe the screen heater is controlled by the ECU or VCU so probably has the ground switched and permanent 12V

    Help!

It sounds like the garage is manned by utter morons. Freelander 1's are simple cars that any mechanic should be able to fix. The engine is an old BMW M47 so there are millions out there and the mechanicals are as basic as is possible for 4WD. EV conversion is very rewarding but not for the faint...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Bought new wheel nuts, then decided not to bother as they are smaller socket size and stick out further so they look kinda crappy. Funny thing is I accidentally bought 16 which is even more useless. 🤣 Big disappointment for me but as I've tried them and they are now marked I...

    Freelander 1 TD4 thermostat replacement ?

As far as I know in most cases the thermostat jams open so removing it isn't necessary, I think if I had gone to the trouble of removing the OEM thermostat I would have replaced it and not bothered with the bodge but well done for going the extra mile.

Freelander 1 Freelander 1 TD4 rpm at various speeds?

You're right mate, You machined it around Christmas 2020 and the coupler has worked flawlessly with no noticeable slackening over 4000 miles now. All thanks to my perfect drawings and welding of course! 😋 Here are photos a few photos I took in Jan and Feb 2021 I was a bit concerned it might...

Freelander 1 Freelander 1 TD4 rpm at various speeds?

LOL, It seems to be OK. TBH I don't know much about syncromesh either except that it helps match the speed of the gears to the speed of the engine (or motor) in a manual gearbox. If it goes wrong it is hard to change gear without a crunch and is probably the reason I can change gears without a...

Freelander 1 Freelander 1 TD4 rpm at various speeds?

That's mean Nodge! It'll take him days to read that lot. 🤣 Nodge and me designed and made a connection from the motor to the gearbox so the transmission is completely standard 4WD apart from no clutch. It works great until I try to drive off without putting it in gear which happened today. I...

    Proposals for Freelander 1 EV

Yes mate but I built it so I know all the dodgy bits that could let water in. Thankfully I put one battery box up high where the fuel tank used to go and sealed it up well. The only other box that could be effected by water is above the water line (sills) too so it should be fine up to...

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

Sunday night I was dropping Mum off at my sisters and didn't realise it was snowing while I was inside. The car was white when I came out and by the time I got home it was lying on the roads, I couldn't help myself and took the long way home on the back roads and had a lot of fun. The car was...

    Proposals for Freelander 1 EV

Ah mate, I'm scared to drive through a puddle. 🤣 I'm sure it will be fine. This is the build thread for my EV conversion. https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/freelander-ev.360880/

    Proposals for Freelander 1 EV

He hasn't been on Landyzone since Jan and I don't believe his original plan was possible with a Freelander but have you seen mine?

    Freelander 1 No gear selection.

I believe the mechanic should be able to tell if the DMF needs replacing when the gearbox is out according to how loose it is but some will replace them every time. My theory is they should be good for 200k miles so if yours has done 150k or more it should probably be replaced regardless. Last...

Freelander 1 welding question - Seat belt anchorages

If the car was first registered before March 2001 it is free (currently). After 2001 it doesn't change, I pay standard road tax for my car. This is due to an interpretation by the DVLA where two rules conflict, i.e Cars built after March 2001 cannot have their tax designation changed and...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Glad to hear that. If you had gone to kwikfit the screw would probably been in the side wall and the tyre would have been trashed. At least that was my experience of them.

It might be the USB stick itself that is the problem but I thought they were normally formatted to FAT or FAT32

Looking good. :) Do you know the condition of the window regulators? In most Freelanders of that age they either have failed and been replaced or are about to fail. It might be worth taking the door cards off for a peek to check for frayed wires and maybe a spray of silicone lube. An...
