200 / 300 tdi into a SerIII Who to ask?

To fit a 200 from a Discovery you will have to notch the chassis to clear the turbo and modify the engine mount on that side as it is a very tight fit. Plumbing the intercooler and the radiator (plus header) tank will need a mixture of hoses and some head scratching. The air filter box can be...

for sale's that are listed in the for sale's

I replied over on LR4x4.com but in case you missed it, I have a 2.5TD bare block with crank, cam and (cracked) pistons. Might be a good start for a rebuild if you are getting desperate to get it going on a budget.

    New swivel ball needed?

One shot grease is the easy way to 'disguise' a leak :) ...but it doesn't stop water getting in. To be honest I have replaced better. Let me see if I have a suitable (second hand) replacement. Looks like n/s ....7 bolt I am assuming? Call me Saturday, phone number on website in sig block...

    Brake disc replacement!!! GGrrrrr

This is why I always open the bleed nipple on the caliper when pushing the pistons back. A pressure bleed may help, but stripping the master cylinder to sort out the seal isn't difficult.

    Gearbox oil argument!

I have to say that I thought that LR changed their mind to MTF94 with the introduction of the R380.

    head gakset? or summat else?

If it is pressuising the water jack then the hot gases will be enough to add additonal heat to the water/coolant. I'm not saying that it isn't a symptom, I'm just saying that it is not a given :)

    tappet adjustment

I would check that it is that first. Remove the fuel lift pump (if petrol) and/or the oil filler pipe from the side of the block and you will be able to see most of the cam and tappets. However, IME a full diagnosis usually involves removing the head and stripping out the tappets and...

    head gakset? or summat else?

No just a mis-fire on the Series. Overheating is a symptom of many things other than hgf.

Garage, a diesel specialist even better.

    head gakset? or summat else?

A compression test would tell you for sure. I could just be blowing from a cylinder into the water jack. I have experienced a Series petrol engine that was misfiring and it turned out to be a head gasket failure between 2 and 3. No other symptom at all.

    tappet adjustment

Sticking tappet would be my guess.

    Caliper and column advice req'd.

I would rebuild that caliper and put in a new axle set of brake pads first off. Even if that is not the noise leaving them like that is not a good idea :) Sorry (oddly) no experience with steering column bearings. I have removed and replaced complete columns and that is not as bad as it...

    Adjustable panhard rod - fitting

How much lift do you have? A 2 to 3 inch lift only moves the front axle sideways by about 1mm (sorry for mixed dimensions) This is well within LR build tolerances. I would suggest that some form of straight edge down the inside of the chassis to the bottom spring perch and taking some...

    whats the best rope

I've only just seen this thread, but it looks like the conclusion is ROPE. I agree (for what it's worth) Strop are for lifting engines and protecting trees. If you are new to off roading then a good quality nylon recovery rope is a good place to start. Don't get any shackles unless you...
