    Freelander 1 Auto 1.8

I haven't reported on progress for a while. I have been mad busy making progress....... The exhaust is now extended, on and seems to work well. The cooling system is now finished, but I have a leak somewhere on the back of the engine. I'm suspecting that the metal cross pipe to the water pump...

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

A lecture (can watch on the internet) on EVs at 4pm Belgium time https://fosdem.org/2025/schedule/event/fosdem-2025-4971-converting-an-07-car-to-an-rc-ev-using-open-source-software/

    Diagnostic tool for Freelander 1

there is a Raspberry Pi version. You can get small touch screens. Furious Driving make one and did a youtube video about it. Last time I checked it worked on an old Asus eeepc as well. I did get Linux running on a pretty cheap prototype RK3566 8" tablet but then the PineTab2 came out so I...

    Diagnostic tool for Freelander 1

sorry that was wrong, it's Engine ECU, Jatco, ABS, cruise control, instrument cluster.

    Diagnostic tool for Freelander 1

no the CANbus goes from the engine ECU, to Jatco transmission ECU (if fitted), to the ABS, from memory then to the SRS and terminating in the instrument cluster. It least that's how I remember it.

    Diagnostic tool for Freelander 1

Live data is also very important. Error codes tell you what the ECU thinks is the problem, but they are aren't always correct. Sometime the logic behind how an ECU decides on errors can be wrong. Live data gives you more clues. You need to be prepared to use your own intelligence. Another...

    Freelander 1 Auto 1.8

The vehicle I got the transmission (and this loom) from had had the interior already taken by someone else. Anything connected to seats or trim had already been chopped off. Fortunately for me they only took one connector that I need (to the shift solenoid lock), but I don't think it will have...

    Diagnostic tool for Freelander 1

The point of any diagnostic tool is that it reduces the problem down to something manageable. For example with an airbag warning you could find the airbag ECU and trace every wire from the ECU to every airbag, looking for physical damage and checking for continuity, and you could check every...

Freelander 1 Freelander 1 diagnostics - What actually works?

there is a post here https://www.the-t-bar.com/forum/pscan-uk-diagnostic-tool-forum/99299-list-of-things-that-customers-have-been-promised where I have publicly stated what I have promised to people, that I have not yet done. I don't believe that it's possible to be any more transparent than this.

Freelander 1 Freelander 1 diagnostics - What actually works?

My T4 won't connect to the instrument cluster on our facelift Freelander 1 at all. My understanding is that there is another tool that will, and yes, my intention (so not a promise) is to make that work. Essentially, if it is possible for a diagnostic tool to do something with a Freelander...

    Diagnostic tool for Freelander 1

There is a thread on diagnostics here https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/freelander-1-diagnostics-what-actually-works.378679/ obviously, I am biased, but I do know which is the best, most comprehensive tool for them.

    Freelander 1 Auto 1.8

I spent a few hours on wiring this weekend. I separated this:- from this so basically I now have a stand-alone automatic wiring loom that I can integrate into the 1.8 K series loom. Today I went through every wire, found it on the wiring diagrams and labelled them up. I am going to have...

    Lost key

Nooooooooooo ! Land Rover should sell you a replacement one. No need to dismantle your dashboard. Don't you believe me or something?

    Lost key

They can only clone the chip if you've got one. If you lost your last key there's nothing to clone.

    Lost key

and having a replacement key made is going to cost as much for an old Freelander now as it did when they were new. It is a good security system, that's why it's problematic to get round it.

    Freelander 1 Brass temp sensor?

it seems a bit elaborate when it's right next to the air box and they could have just pulled air on its way to the engine through the fuse box. Anyway, I guess I can fit the fit later.

    Lost key

My advice is to talk to a parts dept and not the service people. It shouldn't need a diagnostic session (as far as I know) but there is a possibility that the service people will say that you do, though I suppose that their book process would involve disabling the lost key in case someone...

    Freelander 1 Brass temp sensor?

ah, well mine is getting an automatic ECU, but I didn't know about the fans. It probably doesn't get hot enough in the UK to be an issue

    Freelander 1 Brass temp sensor?

The V6 that I took the auto gearbox and wiring loom from had a brass sensor (I guess temperature) inside the fuse box where the engine ECU lives, but the 1.8 doesn't have one. Anyone know what it's for?

    Lost key

Getting a new key from LR parts dept has got to be cheaper than loosing your no claims bonus, and probably less then most people's excess anyway
