Well done. Its a proper project that keeps giving this eh? Most kids stick to Mechano :D

    Freelander 1 Preserving the scarce ! FL1

That's a stunning motor. Mind you, if they can't even get things like "All Round Electric Windows" right in the description, you wonder what else they have made up or got wrong.

Freelander 2 MPG?? (Thinking of switching from Disco2)

Don't be rushed into buying 1 and ending up with a lemon. There are lots available, so you should be able to find a cracking motor. Try and get 1 in as near perfect condition as possible. My F1 is 26 years old so has a few things wrong with it... but most of them were like it when I got it...

Freelander 2 MPG?? (Thinking of switching from Disco2)

I agree with this. As it does not have low-range, an auto will be easier for retrieving your boat.

Freelander 2 MPG?? (Thinking of switching from Disco2)

My experience is that the MPG figures you've been quoted at a bit above what you will get. But I may be wrong. I got my first Landie in about 2000, a D1 300TDI Auto. Was a good car, very sluggish - both trying to get it to go quicker... and slow it down. Exchanged that for a D1 V8 Auto when...

    Freelander 1 Auto 1.8

To me doesn't sound like something that is to 'internal' - eg inside the torque converter, gearbox or engine. It does sound like a dry/worn bearing, but also could just be something rattling, resonating at RPM - seeing the heat shield there - even something like that - the bolts on then often...

Thinking about it, I think they were the ones who left the pamphlet for the Waiau Naturist site in the van, together with a drinks receipt from the Cruz Gay & Swingers Bar. Used condoms everywhere and broken bed board. No couldn't have been them, didn't have any hires under the name of Wells...

    L-series oil leak

Mine's done a little less miles than yours, about 150k miles. Its still going strong, starts on the button and doesn't give any problems. Had to replace the aux belt and drop links recently - but nothing major. The oil leaks are my main concern. I'd love to take it off the road for a bit...

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

I'm a novice on battery stuff. But I don't know how a monitor of the batteries knows their voltage when there is something plugged into them charging them. It would presumably see the voltage that the charger is putting out. Can't be having that - that's a power drain. Only temporary mind...

Doesn't the controller for the motor have some sort of 'inhibit drive' input?

    L-series oil leak

Hi HH, glad to see the L Series is still giving good, if leaky, service. Isn't the inlet and exhaust side the same on the L Series? The induction hose from the intercooler comes across the front of the engine to the plenum where it is joined by the EGR outlet but goes over the top of the...

"sub optimal" Love it. I shall use this term at work, next time I think I'm clever and doing things correctly when I diagnose faults with a multimeter and "sub optimally" catch 2 wires with 1 prong and blow fuses. My spanners have chunks burnt out of them where I've been removing wires from...

    L-Series Injectors & Glow Plugs

Must admit, I'm constantly amazed how my 26 year old L Series always starts on the button first turn. The only fuel related thing I've ever done to it in 15 years owning it is replacing the leak back hoses that had perished. In fact other than servicing & belts/tensioners, I think the only...

    L-Series Injectors & Glow Plugs

Its not something like the non-return valve in the hand/bulb pump broke and letting fuel fall back to the tank? I'd have thought you'd need some way for air to get in for that though - have you noticed any fuel leaks?

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

There's not much that is when it comes to working on bits you've not worked on before. The important thing is, do you still have all your limbs, eyes etc? If you do, then its a good day. It wasn't such a good day for 1 of the drivers at the Speedway at Ruapuna here in Christchurch last night...

    L-Series Injectors & Glow Plugs

Trouble starting the L Series is usually the pump belt timing. That, and the timing wire off No1 injector.

    Lemon 2

Erm, you should have asked this question before you bought the car. Having bought it, really its your decision what you do now. You know what you want to end up with and you have the numbers. If you didn't know it needed all this work doing to it, how do you know car C isn't?

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

As I rapidly approach my 6th decade, I'm still very amazed how every day is still a school day. I think some are ****ed off that they don't know everything, maybe even think they do. But I love learning stuff. It may mean you still have/create grief for yourself, but finding stuff out is great :D

FL 2 Off road experience day ?

Doubt you will find anyone doing 4WD experiences in Freelander. They wouldn't have a very successful business. You'll need to find 1 that you can book to do the course in your motor. I haven't done 1 in a long while, but when I did, these guys were running fairly new cars - so they weren't...
