Don't be rushed into buying 1 and ending up with a lemon. There are lots available, so you should be able to find a cracking motor. Try and get 1 in as near perfect condition as possible. My F1 is 26 years old so has a few things wrong with it... but most of them were like it when I got it...

Its not something like the non-return valve in the hand/bulb pump broke and letting fuel fall back to the tank? I'd have thought you'd need some way for air to get in for that though - have you noticed any fuel leaks?

Trouble starting the L Series is usually the pump belt timing. That, and the timing wire off No1 injector.

Erm, you should have asked this question before you bought the car. Having bought it, really its your decision what you do now. You know what you want to end up with and you have the numbers. If you didn't know it needed all this work doing to it, how do you know car C isn't?

As I rapidly approach my 6th decade, I'm still very amazed how every day is still a school day. I think some are ****ed off that they don't know everything, maybe even think they do. But I love learning stuff. It may mean you still have/create grief for yourself, but finding stuff out is great :D
