This kind of failure isn't confined to Land Rover. There's a lot of issues with DPF clogging and oil dilution with the VW 2.0 diesel, particularly when used for short journeys

AUGUST 2024 UPDATE The New Defender is still fault free and running perfectly. There's nothing really to report. l changed the tyres for some more off-road oriented ones. l've sprayed clear wax based rust prevention on everything underneath. lt will probably benefit someone in 15 years time...

Don't worry too much about mileage, go on condition. 150,000 miles or more is fine if it's otherwise a good one. Obviously if you see one that's done less than 100,000 it's worth a look, but there's no guarantee that it will be any better than the 150,000 miler.

There's plenty for sale in that budget. Ebay doesn't look great though. Have a look on Auto Trader, currently a few nice looking TD5 County/XS Station Wagons around the £12-14k mark. Quite a few TDi's £12-14,000 but only a couple are genuine Station Wagons.

l hope someone rescues it. Remarkably it passed its last MOT in late 2023 with no advisories.
