Hi mate, Aye that's a defender 200tdi. Not sure about the thinner one bein' the earth as all the wires are brown. Brown wires usually mean positive / live ah reckon.
Do it yersel' as it's not really a difficult job to do... honest

Understood, just jump start it and leave it running and if we stop, just leave on a hill, up to you K. Other thing to try is, with engine off spary jet of water into alternator follow buy loads of wd40 (half a tin). then jump it and leave it running, might just free contacts up

Folks, In terms of next weekend, We have a number of choices of location. John and I will go anywhere but are happy to go to Wagtail (Halford) if you chaps want an intro and some support without being part of a major event. Terra, sent you an e-mail but perhaps you never got it. We gave it a miss due to predicted weather that never matured !!! grrr. We are going to Wagtail or Avon Dassett or Sibbertoft next Sun. Let me know if you want to tag along. Oil change is boring but good investment, make sure you protect now with wading kit etc. Keith
