Afternoon,

its been a long time since I have done anything with my 110, 6 years since we moved house and I took a wing off to fix the bulkhead a year before that.

Alas my precious who holds so many memories has now had some TLC over the last week. More over the last week than the last 7 years to be fair.

Mainly as the other classic is on the road, summer is nearly here and I have no intention of doing anything more taxing on it than a bulb change until winter.

As she was, one wing off, one foot of the bulkhead to weld on, the other was done 7+ years ago. I have since accepted as I have another bulkhead already may as well go the whole hog.

Wanting the path of the lazy man I wanted to remove as little as possible from the bulkhead and leave the windscreen and wheel etc attached.

Door off on the other side I couldnt release the sill, this was key as I was to find out later, I forgot there was some spot welds on the centre pillar which are hidden, with all the bolts out it wouldnt release.

Now keep in mind the downside of this method is its a fair whack heavier and there was only me and my good lady...

So with an engine lift on one end and me on the other and my wife on checking and jack we began.

3 hours before this found out the floor repairs had welded the bulkhead to the transmission cover... doh !

Getting close although rapidly ran out of room on the far side to bring it but we squeezed it.

et voila..

Far easier tbh..... .managed to find out with the sill in the re-enforced ring on the bulkhead leg,

Is actually wedged under the sill so becomes a problem, I had to grind it off which is a pain as its a brand new leg but I don't need it now.

I am still 50/50 on whether to do the full chassis swap now the more I ponder it..... I have taken it out of the shed and jetwashed the fvck out of the chassis inside and out... something I probably should have done before tbh. But hence it looks so rusty.

Or a full tub off restoration to be sure I can get to all the bits I need to.

I have welded the left circle before with a plate, may need t do again... rest doesn't look too bad. Top right WTF is this, it just looks like leafed rusted metal now, Cant see this on YRM or anything else as a part which is available, is it just a packer ?

I had a new rear crossmember about 8 years ago I think this is the remains of the old one where it has flared up.... not ideal it was left but not much I can do about it now without full lift off.

Other bits don't seem too bad, anti roll bar bracket.. again I never done much ORF roading.

I am NOT going to order any parts until I have started to clean it up and get a good look... I may as well remove the OUTRIGGERS and that will probably let me have a good look at the rest. umpteen flap wheels and rotary wire brushes have arrived.

Happy to hear thoughts on the state.

So for welding & make your life easier
Take rear tub off.
Take doors & bulkhead/wings off

Carry on doing the above & your 1/2 way to a chassis swap.

You know you will be chasing rust on the old chassis.

Have you got space to change the chassis?

Yeahh, thats what I am rapidly beginning to think tbh... I could probably repair this one but really, its 35 years old on a vehicle I already admit I will keep forever and I have the galvanised bulkhead ready.

Yes have space and managed a bonus this month so may bite the bullet with richards.
 
Happy spannering then. It does make a difference for a few years not having to worry about things with a rebuilt motor.
I put the chassis under mine about 1995 as the chassis was shot when I bought it.
Now has a galv bulkhead.
 
Mine is another vote for the chassis swap. Chances are the steel of the chassis rail behind the gearbox cross member flanges will be non existent, as well as all of the other holes you've already identified. As Hicap phill says, you're half way there. If you have the space and the budget, then it's a no brainer really. Plus, it's a great feeling putting the parts back on to a new chassis and bulkhead.
 
Cheers, its a 6 week lead time for Richards, still a bit 50/50 I think but you dont pay till its ready so I have ordered it ;)
Well that’s 6 weeks to get the other list of parts needed. & the other 1 stripped.
You don’t want to be finding you need parts & have to wait during the build.

Thankfully I am in no rush tbh, not sure what else to do at the same time .... went for turret tops and the bolt sets....Have Terrafirma shocks etc which I detest but not made of money so will likely put them back on. Engine has always ran like a dream so no concerns there...

Lifting the tub doesnt look too bad.... and engine out should be easy enough....

What else is worth replacing...... I need to avoid taking every part to the sand blasters and painters or I will be bankrupt.

Do the hardest job.. A frame bushes & knuckle(replace the whole knuckle with carrier & new bolts) I used the proper bushes for this job as they are a pain to do if they go again.

Make up your own brake pipes or buy the set for your car.
Can of black paint & wire brush to make stuff look nice if needed.

Everything else should be fine.
