Thanks for the replies. Would that cause it not to start then? When I turn the key it attempts to turn over and just chugs blue smoke, then if I put the accelerator down plumes of grey smoke billow out, but it still doesn’t start. The only fault coming up on the computer read out is “Fuel pump drive open load fault” plus random ones, but they clear off.

That ‘fuel pump drive open load fault’ code relates to the fuel pump relay. Try changing that.

This! Check your ecu and relays under drivers seat are dry! I wouldn't ever wade in my td5 as too scared of water getting in there!
