Now that I have my own P38 to hack away on, I've made a bit of progress on a diagnostic tool for these horrible beasts :)



The main aim was to sort EAS but it's already started to creep into the BECM too. Although there is a mountain of work to do, I was wondering what would be of most use for anyone in a cheap diagnostic tool.
 
I'll try to find out if the ecus can stream data at a speed that can make it look *live*

AFAIK, some of the smaller ECUs such as the gearbox or abs don't have much in the way of extensive diagnostic capabilities but I'll see what can be done.
 
Nanocom seems to log at about 1/s but not sure where the bottleneck is. If you can do this via Bluetooth to Android app then so much the better.

Ian Hawkins has quite a bit of diagnostic scanning capability on his Torque app but I am not sure how much you can vary the protocol on the adaptor.

For BECM it might be worth a word with @martyuk as he has had a play with a few. ABS modules too.

Diagnostics for any P38 ECU that will run on an Android device such as a tablet would be useful, save lugging a laptop around,
Priority would be EAS IMO. Live data is certainly available from the EDC slowed only as far as I can see by the Faultmate/Nanocom software.
However, whatever you do will not be as cost effective as the RSW EAS suite which is free.

I can add in Bluetooth connectivity pretty easily, trouble is I'll need to to see if anyone wants to hack some Cordova stuff together cos I suck at Android. Hopefully I can open source most of this development and people can add stuff in as they see fit.

Your right, EAS suite is free but I don't see anyone handing out free laptops or building free cables. People will always need good quality but reasonably priced tools.

I'd do the security sync stuff for all those with old RF receivers. ABS seems to be an issue on later models.
 
By security sync, do you mean mimicking the door lock sync method through obd ?? Not sure how to go about that but I can give it a look.

If you mean the BECM - ECU sync then I can do that for gems ECUs already.

Would think sync EMC to BECM. EKA entry would be good to have also.

BECM to EMS. GEMS seems to be easier than EDC and Thor for some reason.

Gems is slightly easier because you just issue a relearn to the ECU and it stored the first code it hears from the becm, no need to touch the becm at all providing it's working ok.

EDC and Thor you need to read the code from the ECU first, then program it to the becm.
