Classic I am thinking of buing this one...what are your thoughts?

I have been wanting to buy a RRC for some time and missed out on a nice one last year.

I´ve come across this one and wanted to read your thoughts. What looks good/bad from the pics? Are there any concerns?

The advert reads:
200tdi
Lt77 gearbox
borg warner transfer box
1993 year, ABS, traction control, aircon, central locking, electric sunroof, detachable towbar
Unmodified, original condition, reconditioned alternator, new top panel of rear boot,

The only corrosion related item on there is 'new top panel of boot'. My worries would be, if it went there and only a boot floor was done, how bad is the rest? No pics of chassis, body mount points, rear arches etc.

These rot just like D1's so I should think that would be my main concern. If boot went its likely to have crept into rear quarters and arches if it wasn't addressed properly. Wouldn't be surprised if rear crossmember has rusted out too.

As @resto_d1 said, but I also noticed that the outer sills look slightly corroded. As they're alloy, I'd have a good luck to see if the corrosion has travelled to the actual steel sills, in which case also check the seat belt mounts, A-frame and B-frame .. remove the front and boot carpets to see how far rot, if there actually is any, has gone.

Thats a lot of brass for an old motor!

Go pver it looking for holes in sills, inner wings, wheel arches

It's a late RRC. The major issues are rust, rust, rust, and bad repairs to rusted areas. ALL the underpanels are steel.
You need to have a thorough crawl around underneath with a good torch & a good prod & poke at everything.
New underseal all over the place would raise alarm bells as to what's being camouflaged.
Did I mention you need to check for rust?
I'm inclined to think by 'new top panel of rear boot' they mean it's had a new rear upper tailgate.

Yes rear upper tailgate. Thanks for your replies! I will investigate as best as I can. I intend to go and have a look on Saturday but haven't confirmed with the seller yet as I may have to be at work

Never a fan of tractor engines in Classics, but at least it's got a matching transmission
I can only reiterate the advise you've received, as the old saying goes 'all that glitters is not gold'
nb: handbrake application looks to be a few notches above normal.

But there again IF it is clean, rust free, and everything works, it could be a good buy.
Try and get the price down though.
