@D'fender90 ,

Have you thought of tuning the fuel pump to be at its best. But you may want to fit a EGT gauge as well.

Cheers
Had a disco and i turned the pump on that, will probably turn this one up too see how it goes before i do anything else im also running 2stroke oil in the diesel and it runs a hell of a lot better

That should help you burn more fuel, but that's about all.
If you want to go faster buy a Jaguar, not much good off road though.
Sorry to rain on anyones parade, but many of these "performance mods" only exist to the benefit of places selling them.
Some engineer at LandRover worked for many years to give you a reliable engine that was "cutting edge" for its time, if it could have been better I believe he would have made it that way.

Shame that the engineer who has worked for land rover for decades installing sun roofs is still doing a crap job:p

I don't agree with that at all.

I think you'll find that all car manufacturers build things to a strict budget. Thus, I don't think they build things the best they can - the best they can within a budget might be about right, but not the best. Plus, remember that all car manufacturers want you to buy another. If they wanted more power out of the 300, they could have fitted EDC to all of them, and this can easily be tuned... but it costs money....and takes space...

You also have to consider the complex marketing **** that they all get involved in, to keep a disparity between the lower models and the more expensive ones.....

My own experience of tuning 300's is this:-

The standard VE pump is slightly overspecced for the engine - thus it can be adjusted to give more fuel. The standard intercooler is too small, and is very easy to upgrade - so denser air at a lower temp is available. Put those two together properly, and you'll have more power.

The problems now appear - principally EGT. An alloy head can be a bit of a softy, and high EGT will kill it. Plenty of info on the web about how much heat they'll take, but 650 C is a sensible limit. This means you NEED a good gauge, and you need to watch it - cos no one else will !!

Then you need to do something about the alternator - cos its right next to the hot bits, and they do melt - ask me how I know - so a new, bigger, heat shield, or better still, move it out the way to the air con pump location..So if you have aircon, then kiss that goodbye at the start...... which brings us back nicely to the beginning.......
