Hi all, hope you can help me and this is the right thread!

I bought a Freelander Diesel 2.0 manual at the start of March (Y reg) and for the first 3 or so weeks she ran fine. In the last 3 or so weeks I have had trouble starting her AFTER having driven for any length of time from short journeys to longer trips. The first start of the day she always goes first time, if I stop to get fuel or drop something off or anything under a couple of hours she won't start again. I have been putting Redex in her to clean her out but the AA had to come out and start her up with 'Easy Start', I purchased some of this myself but today it hasn't worked. I need to get her to a garage I know but I would like to have an idea of what the problem is before I do so I don't get ripped off... I'm in the armed forces and am therefore not earning very much money!!

Thanks so much in advance
Emma

IF you are worried about dirt the best two methods for keeping your TD4 engine clean enough are:

1. Keep to the oil change schedule. Oil is designed to collect dirt and hold it in suspension. If you leave the oil in too long the oil becomes saturated and can no longer hold on to it - and it starts getting deposited inside the engine. And when you do an oil change you are removing all that suspended rubbish out of the engine.
2. Coke on the injectors and in the inlet tract (including EGR valve) will burn off if it gets hot enough or blown out the exhaust if enough air gets put through the engine. Don't be worried about revving the engine hard every now and then and do make sure it gets a good run on the motorway every few weeks. The worst thing for a diesel engine is to be pottering along doing short runs all the time.

Hopefully yours is just a cam sensor and you will be away. Good luck.

Thanks so much for that! Really going to try and keep her clean so the advise will be really useful. Yes hopefully this time it will just be a sensor... fingers crossed!

Oh great thanks, I have a few bottles of redex left at the mo but will definitely invest in some of that. Good that it's eco friendly too!
