Hey guys,

I want to swap out the old seats on my 110 for more modern ones with a box console in the centre in place of the 3rd sest.
Has anyone got any ideas on what I could fit?

Cheers!

The middle seat can be simply removed and swapped with a cubby box. There are a number of suppliers or you may be able to find a genuine one second hand. If you don't need three up front, it's great. I have a 10-disc CD changer in mine along with all the other oddments you'd normally put into the passenger glove box that isn't there.

As for the driver and passenger seats, I suspect the problem is that the current seats are just old and knackered. Over time, the seat foams break down, resulting in lumpy, unsupportive seats. I refurbished mine using new base foams from Exmoor Trim and it made a big difference. They dismantle fairly easily, and you just need some spray glue to secure the middle bit of the cover to the foam. The seat covers on mine were in good condition so I reused them, but you can get those as replacements as well. The refurbished seats are actually pretty good- from memory they were originally used in a lorry so should be designed to be reasonably comfortable for long trips. Keeps everything standard and doesn't impede access to the battery. :)

Another option I've seen which works quite well is the rear bench seat from a Range Rover, put up front in a 90/110. You then have the armrests on either side for when you don't need three in the front, and the middle seat for when you do. The 60/40 split is the right way round for battery compartment access too.

Cheers flyingpete! Just had a look at some cubby boxes on paddocks which look quiet good, I take it you can get pretty much anything installed in them, USB ports ect..
The reason I'm looking for the more modern seats is the mrs is giving me stick over the old ones  I bet that doesn't sound familiar haha!

+1 for refurbishing the existing seats. Makes a huge difference in comfort, and easy to do. If you have access to a welder, Saab or other car seats can be fitted without too much trouble. I have found Paddocks own cubby boxes to be reasonable quality.

I hate my cubby box, its sharp/harsh and always catches hands on seatbelts. Sure it stores lots of stuff but I was thinking last time I used it how much I hated it.

the defender rails on yours will use two screws on the front (maybe back), while the newer defender ones use a single bolt

you'd need to drill new holes on the seat boxes to fit newer style ones.. easy enough mind

Loads of options for seats. Mine are out a Subaru. Mazda rx8 & Rover 200 fit well. My passenger seat goes well forward to give access to the battery box no problem.

That sounds pants - what sort is it?
I think its Mantec, it was the top of the range and cost me a packet.

This was it the Exmoor Trim version. You can see how sharp the edges are.

I would like one of the safety box ones but they are between £175-£250 compared to a standard £40 one, but at least if it's secure you could add some form of security device inside, I'm not too sure on what security options are available really but it seems like a good place to keep it

I used a pair of fronts from a citroen BX, dirt cheap off a scrappy but had to make up a couple of rails from 1" x1/2" box section to get the fixings. The seats are superbly comfortable and add a whole new world of suspension to your ride, a big plus is that the seat squabs are separately removable. They are wider than std though so I made my own cubby box from 1/2" ply with a leather top on a couple of layers of bed roll type foam.
The thing that I found important with the cubby box was in getting the height right, fit the seats first then use layers of books (workshop manuals if your a bit anal about it) until your elbow rests nicely while in the driving position.
Just make sure you don't get carried away and you can still get 2nd and 4th gear.:)
