Hi there,

I've left things very much to the last minute to post on here and my trip but I'm driving taking the ferry over to Morocco today and then heading down to Marrakesh before spending a week or so driving through the Atlas Mountains and east to the desert.

I was wondering if anyone else will be out there at this time that might be interested in meeting up at some point? My 110 300TDI Defender is kitted out ready for expedition / off roading but I've left the timing of this trip to the last minute as I wasn't sure if it would happen or not due to other commitments. It would be great to meet up with other folk doing a similar route if anyone is about and interested in doing so.

Also if anyone can recommend a good 4x4 / landy friendly hotel in Marrakesh that would be great.

I will try to post some photos up on here in the coming days.

Cheers,

Nick

On your own? Your either mad or very brave!
If you are entering Morocco at Ceuta please send my regards to the Moroccan helper Mr " Lovely jubbly fish and chips"
And the Atlas Mountains could have snow at this time of year - please don't push your luck.

Hope you have given more thought to your vehicle than you have for the trip. Otherwise we might still see you out there in March when we will be over.
You will find all hotels are Land Rover friendly;
Have a good trip.

Some mildly negative comments above which might reflect a different attitude to "planning". I've done what you suggest solo (+ wife - does that count as "solo"?) as well...while it might not be to everyone's taste, you'll learn more and get greater satisfaction from cutting your own tracks. You've prepped your truck so go for it, have a great time!

Cheers for the replies guys. I left shortly after posting the first message and had a great week there and just spent three days driving back to Dover. Landy currently getting MOT'd before drive to Edinburgh.

Got on great by myself, most local folk are extremely friendly and helpful. Picked up a hitch hiker from Netherlands at one point going to desert and a guide to help get over the dunes by Merzouga. Guide was really handy at the dunes as had driven in with hitch hiker first but started getting pretty tricky when the only option was big drops!

Didn't meet Mr fish and chips as went via tanger.

Didn't come across any snow, would have been good as snow driving is fun!

Have more photos on my camera but couple from phone here hopefully

So, contrary to some expectations, it didn't end in tears....;). Good for you!
