Hi everyone,

I have a Defender 90 2.4 TD MY2008. It has never really run right since I have had it, it's occasionally been reluctant to start since We have had it and every now and again feels as if its got air in the fuel system. You can be driving it and it will start to stutter, but if you keep trying to rev it, it will pull through and be fine afterwards. About six months ago, I took the injectors out and sent them to our local fuel system specialist, he tested them said they where all really bad and sold me a set of new ones. I fitted them, had them coded in and that seemed to sort the problem. But it now appears to of come back! There are no codes in the ecu and never have been. The only other faults I can find is that the glow plug wire has been getting vey hot and burning the plastic insulation around the 8mm connecting nut- there is still 12v going to it , but I have now disconnected it to eliminate this from the equation. I have fitted an extra earth lead to the engine to eliminate this also and checked all the fuses. The only other symptom I know of is that sometimes whilst driving there would be a delay after taking your foot off the accelerator- it would feel like it was still revving when you haven't got your foot on the throttle.

Any help would be much appreciated! I am currently thinking it could be the fuel pump on its way out, but something is telling me its more on the electrical side :5bbanghead:

Damn Ford tdci, l had a 2008 Transit Connect 1.8 tdci and it was never really right. The connector to the glow plugs does get very hot and can melt the plastic, happens a lot on the Transit Connect.

Don't get me started on Ford injector coding and ECU issues....l had 80,000 miles of it in my van, although it never actually broke down.

I would never have another vehicle fitted with a Ford tdci engine.

Yes, the chap I bought the injectors from said he has sold ALOT! The transits are very troublesome apparently.
