Hi, ive got a 2.5 tdi discovery that i have trouble starting after its been stood over night, when its been running it starts first time and runs perfectly without any problems, Can anyone tell me what can be causing it and if new glow plugs could solve the problem? thanks

hi mate it sounds a bit like air is getting into the system have a look at the leek off pipes and other rubber pipe work. the glow plugs are easy to test just disconnect the wiring that goes to them and then connect a fairly thick insulated wire to the batterys positive terminal and brush the end of the wire onto the end of the glow plug threaded terminal you should see a small spark when the wire makes contact with the glow plug indicating that the plug is trying to draw voltage and is there for working. dont keep the wire on the glow plug and dont touch any other part of the car with the exposed wire as this is live and could burn you or cause fire and disconnect as soon as your test is over. hope this helps.
