I bought a replacement head and sold the original. It made sense to start afresh, 27 years slightly pitted valve seats and leaky stems; the original would have cost as much to have to have a head shop refurbish the old one. Also the crud from EGR...

I fitted the turner engineering performance head to my 200 recently, it only adds 8-10hp but drive ability is much nicer with quicker pick up and stronger mid range.

this is going to cost me money - i can feel it there is a fairly recent thread on someone fitting a gas flowed head from Turners i think a quieter motor and more low down grunt was the takeaway i got from the thread here in saffer land some...

@Wagon Loon , you may like to scuff up those inlet ports, they're too smooth/too polished. Too smooth an inlet port causes larger fuel droplets to form which is not what's wanted. Ideally, all heads [petrol and diesel] need some level of...

The 300 TDI is a direct injection engine, so there is no fuel in the inlet ports and the directly injected diesel mixes inside a small bowl inside the piston.

I have no issue with the different performance of inlet manifold design. But there is stuff that needs sorting before that. I am not... But air in, air out. So lets start at the air in first. How does it get to those inlet ports (and they look...

That's a great idea, Thanks I'll contact them and ask 👍

Have you tried contacting Fourby? I think they only make them to order, so a phone call might sort one out for you.

When I seen all the craggy intrusions from casting on the otherwise shiny new head, I figured it was the perfect opportunity to remove the intrusions into and smooth out the ports. Since it's direct injection the fuel mixing in the piston, allows...

I fitted a go faster stripe to my 110 200tdi. Starts to peel off at speeds above 106 mph though. Before you all take the pizz, I've got +20 thou pistons so it's a 4.3 litre or there abouts .

Have you ever wondered why it's always cylinder no 3 that blows the head gasket. I would like to make one of these or buy one, but cannot find any available. So may buy a couple of old inlet manifolds and see if my Aluminium welding is good...

I know this is an old thread, but I'm fitting a new head and would like a Tdi Twin Inlet Tuned Manifold. However they do not seem to be available anymore. I've tested air forced into the manifold and with paper over the ports can measure the flow...

Yeah, I must admit I’m really looking forward to the first engine start, then the first drive, then getting the kids out in it. I have to have it done by August, so fingers crossed I don’t hit too many stumbling blocks along the way…. 😊

I'm sure you will be driving about in no time, assuming you can find where you put all the bits 😀. As you say it's the prep that takes most of the time, so hopefully it will be downhill from here on 👍

My 109 is waiting for me to finish the chassis and rebuild her. Although she was always intended as a retirement project, and I'm busy porting and polishing a new cylinder head for my 300 TDI pick-up after the head gasket started to go. However...

Been busy in the background, doing the prep work on the second row floor, toe board, tunnel and miscellaneous bits…. Got the painted bits back started putting it all together 😊
