I've had the head pressure tested twice now, and it's not damaged. What else do you suspect?

Funny you should mention that... those nice chaps at BLRC were 100% certain it was a cracked head, and carried out the test on the 'exhaust gases in the coolant' bit in front of me to prove it. Their estimate was £2300.

THAT I am hoping is the case as my local mechanic replaced my head gasket yesterday and has refilled with blue antifreeze. I've no idea how much red was left in the system; he may have flushed it all out but I was concerned they may gunge things up inside the pipes.

It may be the head gasket. I had the same problem last November; a very slightly weeping gasket was blowing the coolant out with no other visible traces. The expansion tank was always empty. It cost me £700 to have the gasket replaced and the head pressure tested, but the problem went away...
