I have just bought a Series I, 1954, and have the same problem, it is terrifying! We have checked and refitted the steering relay unit (the flange plate was not bolted in place), swopped the brake anchor assemblies as they were incorrectly fitted (front brakes with trailing shoe at the front!!!)...
