Defender TD5 engine and box swap.

Moved to right section Due to my ongoing cold start saga thats looking more and more terminal, and my gearbox now making a horrible warble/whine/rattle when in 5th gear, I'm looking at changing engine and box at the same time. Mine is a 15p Defender TD5 and have the offer of a 15p rear...

Sorry - posted in wrong section - fat fingers and mobiles don't mix.

    TD5 struggles to start

Well little development. Seems like I'm losing 5th gear, getting v noisy. So I'm pussying out of the fault finding! Have a rear damaged D2 td5 with low mileage so I'm going to straight swap the engine and box, at least that's the plan!

    TD5 struggles to start

Well good news is that it passed an MOT! Will get back into fault finding in the next couple of weeks. In the frost I thought the battery was going to run out of juice before it would start!

    TD5 struggles to start

Cheers! As luck would have it a Bosch approved centre has opened about 3 miles from me that specialises in VAG and LR which is handy to know. Looking around on the net my symptoms are pretty similar to timing being out, will get them to check the injectors too. Hopefully be along with some...

    TD5 struggles to start

When the garage did the injector seals he reckoned the injectors were slightly worn but should be ok, also reckoned the timing was fine, but not sure how much i trust their judgement now. Would the timing out etc only affect it at cols start? Just puzzles me how it starts on the button when its warm

    TD5 struggles to start

I'm back, and still have the same problem! Work has meant i've not had time to get round to it til now. I did put in a whole, new earth lead but this didnt make any difference. Recorded the start up the other morning which makes it a bit easier to explain - it's weird how it suddenly starts...

    Disocvery 3 TDV6 Head gasket

My previous 07 D3 suffered from a head gasket failure and probable cracked valves and heads (didn't pay to diagnose any further). When I looked online I couldn't find any trace of anyone else having the same problem. When they quoted me 9.5k for fitting a new engine I cut my losses and got rid...

    TD5 struggles to start

Hi- Not throwing up any errors, and all the voltages seem to be fine. It does the same with the old ECU, new ECU and the indy's test ECU. Air was getting into the fuel line before, but the new fuel pump has solved that. It is quicker to start, but the problem still remains. For the amount I've...

New fuel pump, earth, all electrical connections etc checked and still the same. I think with the latest bill I will be giving up on it to be honest

Cheers for the thoughts lads. EGR is blanked so can't be that. It's into the indy tomorrow to have the fuel pump looked at, as I just don't have the time to check it out myself. Will keep you posted on any developments in case someone else has the same problem sometime!

    TD5 struggles to start

Oil and water level stay the same, not mixing at all. The going fast/ going slow isn't during the same drive, say I drive from my house to the filling station it goes like hell, then when I start it up and leave the station it's back to normal, luck of the draw on start up

    TD5 struggles to start

It's had the injector washers etc done already, it's cost me a grand so far and no different :( I've noticed now that when its running real rough just after start up the speedo goes up to about 50, then back down again. Beginning to think maybe electrical problem maybe, it's sending me round...

    TD5 struggles to start

Thanks for the advice - sorry for delayed reply but been manic busy with work! Changed the FPR gasket and all seems fine there. Checked around ECU and found a couple of chafed wires, taped up but still no change. No oil in red plug, but the bottom of the box has a thin layer of oil on it...
