Update: got into the bonnet eventually. Fluid is full (to the max line) found a few other unrelated faults too whilst under there. Scrap yard is becoming more appealing by the second. So as fluids are full what would be the next suggestions please.

So following suggestions to check fluid. I've went to lift the bonnet and it won't open (at this point I want to cry lol) any ideas how I can get the bonnet open when lever won't release it please.

Pedal takes barely any effort to push, can't test the theory of the car being in 1st gear my neighbour loves to put the back end of his car almost flush with the front of mine ‍♀️ and I'm unsure how to check the fluid levels.
