Appreciate all the enlightenment. I've watched the videos including a couple by L R Time where he suggests that the crank issues were likely caused by football matches going the wrong ways resulting in moody engineers on Monday mornings...
We used to get Police & HA Disco 4's in for service, most if not all had DPF's - we never had any issues with engine failures, they were generally pensioned off between 330-350k miles.
The HA ones were mostly plodders, the Police ones not so...
I'd say go for it, if you're spending 15k on the D4, you are most likely buying it from a dealer, so get a warranty as part of the package. Also save up, if you have money in the bank it's not such a kick in the crotch if it eats a crankshaft...
Very keen to buy a D4. I've found a decent 70k mile HSE and all seems good but nagging at the back of my mind is the whole crankshaft issue. Is it worth playing Russian roulette with £15 grand or is the whole problem overblown?
Would be grateful...
