Where the feck is my water going???

Okay....now I'm confused!! I thought I'd check a few things on my engine before getting too drastic and start ripping it apart. I thought I'd check the 4 cylinders first for any signs of coolant. Three out of the four spark plugs were not very tight maybe explaining the slight...

Where the feck is my water going???

I plan to check the plugs first thing before ripping the engine apart. I can see the engine tray from the inside and there is definitely no sign of any water present. There is no eternal leak anywhere and no water either under the vehicle or on the engine tray. It seems to be draining away...

Where the feck is my water going???

Oh bloody hell....I hope not!!:( As far as I can see I have no choice here but to take the head off and just hope for a catastrophic failure of the head gasket. At least I can fix that. Will a slipped liner be obvious to spot? Earlier in the day before I noticed the water problem the...

Where the feck is my water going???

Did that manifest itself as an external leak? There is no external leak present on my engine that I can see which to me suggests that the water is draining internally into the engine as it has to be going somewhere at a fair rate of knots. I can't think of anything else it could be. I did...

Where the feck is my water going???

Yeah, its bone dry inside under all foot wells and seats so the heater must be okay. I've had another play and the sump is now definitely filling up with the water I'm putting in as the oil is now thin and runny so it looks like the head gasket has failed spectacularly. It looks like I will be...

Where the feck is my water going???

Hi, I have a 99 1.8 petrol engine Freelander and whilst checking my fluid levels today I noticed that my expansion tank was empty. I topped it up and to my horror the water just drained away instantly in a matter of seconds. I tried once more and the same thing happened. The oil seems okay...

    Engine misfiring

Okay....It looks like I've sorted my misfiring engine out so I'll provide some closure to this thread for people searching in the future with similar issues. To save fannying around I went out and spent around £110 on a complete ignition system buying a new ignition coil (NEC100800), HT...

    Engine misfiring

Okay update for those following this thread... My Freelander started first time this morning () so I'm beginning to think that maybe I flooded the engine last night hence it not starting. It still has the rough running where it's misfiring every now and then. I got a spare spark...

    Engine misfiring

Mantamad, It only just happened before it went dark so I'll have a good check tomorrow in the light. Totally agree that it should hopefully be easier to find now that whatever was slowly failing has now given up the ghost. It must be ignition or fuel related as the engine turns over fine so...

    Engine misfiring

It appears my problem has intensified as my Freelander will now not start. It will turn over on the starter motor and occasionally try to fire but it will not start. I'm wondering if the coil has now totally failed and was maybe failing beforehand with my earlier issues. Any ideas??

    Engine misfiring

edge, Does the Mk1 Freelander have coils in the individual leads or is that the Mk2? As far as I can see they are conventional leads available on eBay for around £20 or so. The cables could still breakdown when warmed up causing a similar misfire so it may be worth a punt for £20.

    Engine misfiring

I looked for split hoses but they seem in good nick. I will look at the IACV tomorrow. I hope it isn't a valve issue because the problem clears above 2500rpm. I'm assuming it isn't as it would get worse the quicker the valves move.

    Engine misfiring

dazjam, I've already got it but the earliest Freelander referenced is a MY01 which I assume is the Mk2 version. I'm not sure how applicable it would be to my Mk1.

    Engine misfiring

Hi, I've recently bought a 99 1.8 petrol Freelander and the snags are lining up already. My primary concern right now is that my engine is misfiring. It seems okay initially after starting but when it warms up (10-15 mins) it misfires like its only running on three cylinders. This occurs...

    Newbie

Hi, I've just joined after recently buying a 1.8 petrol Freelander...I know I'm a glutton for punishment. I've already done the obligatory drying out of the rear compartment along with replacing the rear trim fixings that let the water in. I look forward to bothering you with many problems in...
