Carb V8 hesitant, holding back, cutting out, difficult to start but then runs

This should be simple for the gurus here. I am wondering if its simply fuel filter, pump or is it HT electrics / distributor cap. Driving along today it hesitated on acceleration, but after changing to a lower gear at high revs it pulls ok: The idle sounds a bit off, sometimes stopping...

Thermostat change to fix running cool

I found the 75° one in there, which I guess to be a mini one, so it might well have been wrong type: the new one is much longer. I'll keep an eye on the gauge, although unfortunately the bulb has fallen out at the back of it, so it's difficult to see in the dark.

    200 tdi defender runs cool

Hmm so I might not be able to keep it clear, it would be a losing battle. What's the recommended interval?

    200 tdi defender runs cool

I have replaced the thermostat with the correct 88° one, finding a 75° in there, seems to explain why it was running cool. On the way home it got almost half way on the temp gauge, so I think I have solved the issue. The water is clear in there, so now I have to get some antifreeze. I also...

Safari Snorkel 200TDI - return to standard

The raised intake is now off and it does seem to be running nicely. There are 3 holes in the wing and 5 in the screen post, which I have covered with heavy grease until my new grommets arrive in the post. The only challenge was attaching the new intake grille, for which there were no badge...

Thermostat change to fix running cool

In case anyone reads this in the future, I want to add that today did a couple of hours and for some reason this morning the temp barely left the initial white zone, yet on the way home it did climb almost to half way, which has given confidence to say I think fitting the correct thermostat has...

Thermostat change to fix running cool

Hopefully this is just a funny story I can tell people in the future. I recently got my Defender 110 back on the road, and noticed the temp gauge sits stable about a third of the way, and the heater blows warmish but not enough on these cold mornings. So I changed the thermostat this morning...

Safari Snorkel 200TDI - return to standard

@mick the builder If it comes off complete I will be selling it but I am just imagining packaging it for posting, that wont be fun at all.

Safari Snorkel 200TDI - return to standard

These are great insights as I hoped, many thanks to you all. It does seem like I could return to standard with a few holes being the only consequence. I agree if there are holes in the wing it would look bad, but I think I can live with a few small grommets in the windscreen frame as mikescuba...

Safari Snorkel 200TDI - return to standard

I should clarify that the 110 is a great expedition vehicle, with excellent off road capability, but if I wanted a specialist off road vehicle for weekend fun (which I don't) I would have a 90. It's just my view.

Safari Snorkel 200TDI - return to standard

:-) I don't really like the snow cowl either but I hear there's going to be an arctic weather bomb so I might keep it until the spring.

Safari Snorkel 200TDI - return to standard

I have the above on my 110 CSW I really don't think it looks right on the old girl so I would like to return to standard intake. I do not wade in deep water, and let's face it, the 110 is not the best off road tool. It looks like the base of the snorkel fits over and replaces the regular...
