2011 SD4 (automatic) with 94000 on the clock. Recently purchased. FSH, immaculate inside and out. Bit of a shudder at light throttle around 1800rpm as it changes from 3rd to 4th. However when towing a lightweight caravan the shudder is violent and accompanied by a noise like machine gun fire...

I have checked several times. Have wire brushed but no sign of a number. Chassis in very good condition but no number. Doesn’t look like it’s been welded.

There’s a VIN plate on bulkhead that matches the log book but no number on the chassis. The mot history stacks up although it hasn’t had one for a couple of years. I guess perhaps it’s just a bit of a Trigger’s broom.

Engine (5 bearing crank), wiring (brake check relay in particular)

1972 series 3 SWB petrol according to V5 and registered historic but closer inspection of vehicle makes me think it is actually a 1982 vehicle. No VIN on chassis. What are the implications?

Well, after a few miles now the wear pattern is obvious. At 25 psi the indications are that the tyres are underinflated (I think) as there is a clear band beginning to show around the inner side of the tread area. Most noticeable on the n/s rear for some reason but it is noticeable on all four...

Don’t all series windscreens fold flat? That has given me an idea. There’s a trailer & trailer parts place near me and they sell covers. If there isn’t a purpose made rain cover for a series then maybe a trailer one will fit with elastic cords and plastic hooks to hook into the front wheel...

Hi, Are there any proprietary covers that are suitable for putting over a swb series 3 when it’s parked up once the roof is off? Would like to leave hardtop off for the summer but would like an easily attached cover to put on it overnight etc. Haven’t got room in the garage unfortunately.

Hi, I’m thinking of getting my series 3 waxoyled. The chassis is currently sound and I’d like to keep it that way. Is waxoyl (or any other sprayed product) a good idea or does it just make subsequent maintenance a messy process if everything is covered in a protective coating? I don’t want rust...

So then! Only had this SWB a few weeks and have done a number of jobs, all relatively small as it’s generally in pretty good condition. Foolishly though, I hadn’t checked the tyre pressures. Have now. 30psi all round! I’ve let them down to 25 all round and the difference, understandably, is...

It had new parabolics and shocks fitted when I bought it. I think the tyres are fairly new too but I haven’t checked the pressures since I bought it. They do look too hard though. Will check tomorrow.

Hi, My series 3 SWB is fitted with General Grabber AT2 235/85R16 tyres (on there when I bought it) and the ride is very firm. Anyone else have these tyres and if so what pressure do you run them at?

Yes, I think I’ll order a replacement today.
