Yeah everything else was fine we did have to replace the hub as we had to hammer it of to gain access to the bearing but apart from that nothing else was damaged.

After taking parts down we soon realised it was the bearing, but it was not as bad as we had worried about, soon got it off and put the new one on :)

OK guys thanks for all the messages about how to try and solve hopefully should start work on it later in the week. and will let you know on how it goes and see if we have worked out the problem.
And just to be clear its a land rover defender 90 and I do apologise for the confusion......

I don't own a freelander
and yeah that's what I thought at first but normally when a bearing goes the wheel is left at a slight angle and the wheel looks fine
