Thanks for the advice - I'll give it all a go and report back. I have a new sender to fit but I don't think the old one is at fault as the fuel light comes on when it is low so surely the float is ok? New defenders are very nice but there is something nice about keeping an oldie going!

I've got myself a 1984 Ninety - it's a bit of a dog if I'm honest but I do love it! My main gripe is the fuel gauge goes straight to full as soon as ignition is turned on - I've been told that it's an earth problem (the live is shorting to earth somewhere) is there a way of "jerry rigging" it so...
