    Not a good first experience!!

If it's an early Single Point LPG system, they can be prone to backfiring - often given away by a broken air box, or indeed the remains of an air box now playing home to a 'performance' (trumpet) style air filter. Get it properly serviced - by an LPG specialist, idealy one who knows Land...

    yikes !!!!!

Ye sodding gods... That would even be acceptably described as a waste of a Volvo S40!

    Series 3 Electronic Ignition.

SimonBBC make a kit - easy enough to fit. But it sounds like you have something else wrong/broken in the distributor if the points gap keeps needing setting. A kit with a new distributor would best, but bear in mind that points based systems are repair friendly, electronic ones aren't -...

Hello from Biggleswade, Beds - backfiring problems!

I have a P38 with an early lpg system fitted that does much the same - when it is in need of a good service. This usually well before the regular service interval is up. Sometimes it blows assorted breather etc pipes off the engine which make it worse... There is P38 & lpg specialist nr...

    series 3 rattle

If a Series runs quietly it means some miscreant has nicked yer engine & drivetrain. Or the handbrake has failed.... The rattle is probably something loose under the bonnet or on the bulkhead - mine performs a full symphony just from the air vent catches when you off the throttle. The black...

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

Give her a P38? That's one way to get her to phone you the next day I suppose. And the next, and the next... :D

Thinking of buying a Range Rover

Before you finally run away screaming, I bought an early 4.0 P38 with primitive lpg, 170k on the clock, no service history about 18 mths ago. Searching, searching & sesrching on here first gave me a heads up, as did knowing a local specialist who run them themselves. It cost less than a...

    Hertfordshire Lanes?????

Hopefully back out soon.... Last trip saw the fuel pump, poss carb go Pete Tong (so not so much the puddles as drop down into 'em it seems...). Time, work and weather have scuppered fixing things, but soon be sorted. Might even get the Tilt fitted next week as well! Maybe...

Hi Tom Welcome from a fellow 2a owner the Herts/Beds/Cambs border. Pop over to the Herts Laning thread in the Green Laning section - regular trips out from this area. It's great fun! Steve

Shall I fit a electronic distributor?

I've fitted a SimonBBC unit (inc. new coil) to my 69 S2a, to replace a worn out mechanical one, and it works great. Timing needs tweaking beyond normal settings, but engine runs like a sewing machine despite dicky carb (now replaced) and now a dicky fuel pump. Dizzy doesn't look much different...
