Yes I've plenty of rope and could splice something suitable but wanted something I felt comfortably rated for the job and had that bit of stretch to take up the load. As I've said elsewhere, I believe the spec is up to the job.

There was a comment on the strut (on your link) about bending when fully opened. Is that something you find or might it have been an installation issue?

I've not used them yet but as they're dated 1996 (it also says 97 MODEL Year on some pages) I assumed they're as stated on the file name as a 300TDi so would be good for my 1994 300TDi. I believe it's replacement the TD5 didn't come in till 1998. I'll stand corrected as I'm far from expert...
