So update, took landrover into garage today who bled brakes and tested them. Reasonable braking force but long pedal travel. He said adjuster on rear not working and needed adjusting on front as well. Discovered rear did not have pin in shoe for...

Good. Not be selling now 😀, At least you’re on the road again, but I bet the garage did not do anything you could not have done yourself! getting brakes working properly is a very common problem on here , lots have issues, but patience needed to...

I just back off the locknuts push the rod towards MC then move nuts so it’s nipped without free play then back off the nut nearest MC 1.6mm by eye move rod back away from MC then nip far nut up , hopefully make sense looking at diagram. You...

That’s a shame, sometimes you just need to have a cup of tea and cool down , that’s all part of the learning process, did you get the required clearance in the master cylinder pushrod and brake adjusters not binding can’t think what else would...

😨 15 year old battery is going some!, when you checked the earth straps does that mean you removed them wire brushed terminals clean including where they mount on chassis / engine and you have done same with positive connections , battery...

With regards to the noise, have the water pump replaced with the cambelt. If the noise is still there you can change the pas pump yourself at a later date if you are happy doing it.
  • steve2286w
My son made a decision to pay a specialist to do his cambelt, worst decision ever! It has been an endless drama since putting right their f××× ups since. The potential to go wrong is there regardless of you doing it or not, ether way it costs...
  • steve2286w
Well done you have narrowed down the fault on your 25+ year old engine to either the water pump or the PAS pump. If I were you I would treat the engine to an OEM quality replacement of both items which would do you for another 15 to 20+ years...
  • steve2286w
Yes, it's a good time to do it. I had wanted to do cambelt myself but new to this vehicle so don't want to stuff anything up on such a mission critical job. I've also developed a recent phobia of shearing bolts and I gather there's potential...

Can you take the insurance value and buy the wreck off them? Then at least you can salvage what is worthwhile. Are you sure the chassis is fecked? I can't help but think it'd take a heck of a lot of heat to do that. whatever, best of luck...

Cheers, I’ll be better when I’m sat in a working disco 2 TD5 LOL! Yea I’m good and the family, only was car and garage stuff so very lucky really. I do have contents insurance for the house so I’m thinking they will cover the stuff lost but...
  • steve2286w
Absolute Agony, hope you feel better soon, have to try and find some positives out of this at the end of the day it can be replaced you can’t. There may be more salvageable parts other than just the front end. House insurance might cover other...

OK, I'm going to dare to say it. Isn't insurance involved?

I got an AIRTEX 6395G a few years ago £58 , did you check the pulley wheels are tight , and no side play 6 mile should be ok
  • steve2286w
steve2286w replied to the thread Brakes a bleeding nightmare.
That’s good progress did you get some air out, have you got 2 wheel cylinders at each front wheel , there is a few other things to try if brakes still not adequate
  • steve2286w
Run the engine for thirty seconds without the belts. See if the noise reoccurrs. If not then it's probably the water pump, could be the impeller coming loose.

So clamped front hoses and got a solid pedal, so must be an issue with the front brakes. Clamped each side in turn and it appears to be front left. Tightened up connections and pedal now seems better??? Haven't tried driving yet though.
  • steve2286w
No, I checked with the belts loose. Should have taken the belts off shouldn't I :D. I'll check again with the belts off.
  • steve2286w
How did you check the pulleys, did you take the belts off?
