I think I'll just be sticking with points for now and keep a couple of spare bits in case of issues. There are a few other things to try and sort out with the engine, eg figuring out and hopefully sorting various noises etc so that's my next...
Glad you got it sorted , hard to diagnose a box electronics, where old fashioned set up at least fault finding a bit easier, might be worth putting a post on the series forum asking which spark box people use with recommendations if you want to...
I've got this all sorted out now, not quite my desired out come though... back to points! So I did some more testing and took the whole ignition system out to test on the bench, electronic ignition was not behaving how I expected so I ended...
Have a search, this popped up below on my iPad, but also try the main series section rather than the engine section and you will get better responses, I’m a diesel man

Good afternoon LZ'ers 14 months ago I started working on Leylandi and today it's the first time I've given her a proper wash and wax. She's looking a bit more presentable these days.
I put a 2.25 diesel back on the road a couple of years ago, which had stood for 10 years. Performance was dire, so slow it was embarrassing. It had and still has a Fairy overdrive and 750 tyres. After a couple of weeks use the modern diesel took...
Thanks for the information much appreciated. Regarding date marks on the block, just underneath the manifold there is a clear D5 and at the base of the block there is a similarly clear 4A3 (raised characters on the block both on the manifold...
Agree with Kermit there ,looks like you can see the marks where it was ground off, most likely the engine has been refurbished and those identify the company and the engine number on their books.
Yours does not have the diagonal bracing on the...
I saw the same thing, yeah. I have already checked a few of these (binding wheels, throttle cable, air filter) and they all appear to be fine, but I will put the others on my "to learn" list - it's all very new to me!
Just looking at my vid again you have the same engine I did and I got 55 quite easily, , maybe check what the issue might be , tappet gaps, engine compression, injectors, pump timing , wheels binding , throttle cable not fully opening , butterfly...
Sorry yes I meant the di, rather than tdi - a slip of the finger! That's also useful information. Sticking with diesel would mean I had to do less mucking about with the fuel system than the conversion to petrol so it's still a firm contender...
I don’t know the 200tdi personally but it’s faster accelerating for sure , I have the 200di and it’s a bit more powerful that gets me up hills where I’d be dropping down in the 2286, for me it’s an easy swap keeping original exhaust, radiator...
