removing broken halfshaft from cv joint

Hi all does anyone know how to remove broken half shaft from cv joint on a td5 defender? it has broken inside so there is nothing to hold onto, thought about trying to weld a bar inside there so i can then hold onto it to knock it out but not sure whether it will weld hmmmmm

    dvla vin number change?

well the v5 does already show that its diesel and its got the correct engine number but when landrover france put the original vin number in, it obviously comes up with petrol engine, which they will not accept unless i go to a government agency and get charged 1000E per test (potentially...

    dvla vin number change?

hi there, i mean my vin number shows original petrol engine engine, they wont accept the engine change for the coc, so it would be handy if the new vin number shows that its a diesel engine so they will issue me a certificate de conformitie so i can get french papers

    dvla vin number change?

after some good advice on this forum regarding my problems registering my uk landy in france, (there had been an engine change in the past and landrover france saying it extremely difficult to get certificate of conformity) someone suggested that it might be an idea to change the vin number with...

registering a uk landy in france-certificate de conformitie problem

good advice again, what is the process of changing the vin to accomodate the engine changes? do you think i could do this by post without taking the vehicle back, the current vin does say diesel engine but obviously the vin number when checked does show original petrol engine. As far as pushing...

registering a uk landy in france-certificate de conformitie problem

dieseldog, that would be great but im not sure who i would talk to about that, the prefecture who issues the carte grise? (v5) im pretty sure I would know there response when I tell them its against european law. As far as my french insurance company is concerned they are getting impatient that...

registering a uk landy in france-certificate de conformitie problem

yes that is an idea, tho i live here full time so i wouldnt get away with that permanently, the police would eventually get on my case...plus the uk mot runs out fairly soon so i would have to take it back to the uk to renew that, if that was the case, i might aswell sell it whilst its there...

how is it possible to snap a halfshaft?

thanks bustersbus, thats helpful, i presume thats a td5 aswell? if i just have to remove front right half shaft and not the cv joint, i guess i definately have to remove the 5 drive flange bolts, then the 52mm hub bolt, will half shaft come out then or do i have to remove all the other things ps...

how is it possible to snap a halfshaft?

thanks for the replies, ive narrowed it down to front axle, and the driver side wheel turns wehn the passenger wheel is on the ground, so presumably its the driver side shaft. Ive taken the surclip and the 5 bolts off, will I have to remove the hub bolt to extract the shaft? Ive read...

how is it possible to snap a halfshaft?

yes, im regretting buying britpart now...but is it caused by excessive windup? i thought I was using the landy correctly, is there an underlying problem with something or is it purely driver error? seems strange that first brake was on normal road in high ratio, with no diff lock

how is it possible to snap a halfshaft?

My td5 appears to have snapped its second halfshaft....first one in normal driving conditions, high ratio , non diff lock, tho did have an oil leak around there for a while. Second one in extreme conditions, lots of snow/ice and lots of changing into low and using diff lock often. Did replace...
