Help with 6 cylinder military landy

Hi Thanks for the replies. It's not a Holden it's a Rover engine. Chassis was very good. Just worried about engine. It has a Salisbury rear axle. As its FFR they have larger radiator and oil cooler so that should cope with the reported overheating problems. I'll keep u posted.

Help with 6 cylinder military landy

Thanks. No service history and not owned by enthusiasts either so it's anyone's guess. It seemed sluggish when I drove it.

Help with 6 cylinder military landy

Dear All It's been a while. I have very reluctantly sold my trusty series 3 24V FFR. After 14 years I'd had it longer than my daughter! The sale was forced by a move to Perth Australia. I'm looking at an Australian military Series 3. The big issue for me is it has a 6 cylinder engine in...

Loss of engine revs/power and 'pop'py running

My vehicle had similar symtoms. Not as acute though. In the end I discovered the dizzy was rotating on clamping ring which was bent and lost its grip. It was worse when the engine was warm - less grip from expansion? All fixed now. I'd try the dizzy and ignition first.

    24 Volt Ffr Series Iii.

Hi You can follow the links below for some 24V FFR wiring diagrams. The little black box on the engine contains a resistor which drops the voltage from 24V to 12 V for the igniaiton system. I like the 24V system. It is more superior than the 12V system. BUT, spare parts such as...

    steering issues

The steering is notoriously vague. If the vehicle is new to you it can be a bit alarming. Over time you get used to it. I did. Bit scary at first though...

    speedo problems...

Top tip seems to be to fit needle pointing straight down. Once fitted, the needle can then be wound forwards to rest on the stop so pre-loading the spring the correct amount. They must install the needles like that in the factory.

    speedo problems...

Today I adjusted the speedo and then tested it by driving it with a variable speed electric drill set to rotate anti-clockwise. By using the stopwatch on my mobile phone I was able to measure time taken to 'cover' set distance. It's reading a bit high: Run 1; Distance=1mile, time=67.29...

    Series 3 gearbox problem.

There may be two problems: 1) Clutch release bearing is worn and needs replacing. 2) 3rd to 4th synchro unit has a broken detent spring giving rise to inttermittent problem?

Diff / rear poleshaft problem - i think!!

sounds like a rear half shaft. You should not drive until fixed in case some debris gets in the differential - which will make a right mess. Easy to fix if you get all the bits out. The problem is that the rear half shafts are not really of adequate section for the torque available so they...

    speedo problems...

I knew I could rely on you all. Ok, so I make a rig to load speedo into the lathe. I know, i think, the various gear ratios from wheel to speedo. What do I assume is the mean diameter of the wheel? I as going to measure the effective radius from the ground to the wheel centre.
