I had to this on my Series 3 109. The hub to axle seal had gone. EP90 axle oil was slowly seeping out and dripping onto the brake shoes. If the truck had been standing overnight they would be a slight pull to the opposite side the first time you braked the next day as the leaked oil was scrubbed...

The first issue we had after my last post was a gearbox with random gears available. First to go was third gear which came back after a while, we then had various become unavailable with third coming back. Eventually it got stuck in fourth and wouldn't come out. I did hope initially that it was...

Oh heck. 3 years since an update! Lots of shenanigans since then.
Some of the excuses for not updating are,
Changed job to a more intense one
Gearbox went. This was a fairly major job as I keep the truck a few miles from my house and there is always something you need that you leave back...

I had this issue when I got my series 3. I ended up doing as LordOWar says, shimming the bottom of the relay. A previous owner had welded the bottom plate in place in an effort to stop the relay moving.
One other thing I did find was that the old Dunlop Xtragrips I had fitted at the time were...

Thanks.
I now have the box out. I'll try the main shaft nut.

Rest assured that I am familiar with the properties of WD40 & Plus Gas. I must have used a few gallons over the years. This lot were too far gone. I previously soaked the ones under the floor but the WD40 only freed off the portion in the nut. They turned until you got to thicker corrosion on...

Hello,
Here's one for you. At the beginning of the year I lost 3rd & 4th on my 1984 Series 3. I managed to get it back home and was manoeuvring it into it's parking space when there was a "thunk" from the direction of the box and I could select all gears again. I checked the oil which was a bit...

I got some Paddocks "Deluxe" Seat backs in the front of the 109. So much nicer than the old slab ones. Might get the "Deluxe" bases next month depending whether I have any cash left at the end of this month.

Could you get it welded up? though given the hassle factor a new one might be easier.
Steam cleaning first would be necessary to remove the explosion danger from the welding.
I've used good old Araldite to get me home with a leaky tank but that was a temporary patch that was only in place for...

Some thoughts on this
1) Are you getting an air lock? I had a similar situation where it (109 2.25 petrol) ran at a decent temp then as soon as I started to climb a gradient the temp shot up. It was too quick a reaction to be the actual engine temp increase due to loading. Later when I pulled...

I admit I did have several go's at it.

We took advantage of the nice weather over the week end and had one of the last late nights down West Wittering beach before they shut every night at 6.30 over the winter. I got the LED courtesy light set up in the rear which makes things a bit more civilised. I just need to tidy up the wiring &...

I had a bit of a rattle like that. It turned out the front prop shaft was knackered where the two halves slid in & out of each other.
