yes can select gears however there is a lot of play on gear stick when in gear, reverse can be difficult to find?

hi I have got a strange noise when you accerate hard so revs are over 2000rpm particuly in 1st 2nd and 3rd gear. it sounds like a metalic spinning or grining? its coming from somewhere in engine or below? its not there when are is in neutral? any ideas? thks rob
