freelander 1 td4 Jatco Auto Gearbox

Well I just dropped in out of interest and saw this post, and a little bell went off in the dusty recesses of my mind. Do you have a performance chip (synergy etc) or a remap? This alters the torque curve quite dramatically and leads to a vibration in 5th gear on the auto box and a reluctance to...

Freelander 1 Auto box stuck in 1st for a few hundred yards.

So having read the above you say you changed all solenoids. But banging into gear is often a sign that the 2-4 brake duty solenoid is either faulty or has a short of some kind. And it's 2nd and 4th that are playing up. I would doubt the TCM is at fault, it just doesn't add up. I have experience...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Just passing through, off work with a bug, so I thought I'd drop in. I don't think I've got 3K posts in me, even with all the b0llocks I talk;) Mike P.s currently returning 61mpg in the little red toaster, scary on a motorway though.

What have you done to your Freelander today

Fortunately I never had to change the heater matrix. But I know how too, and unfortunately that means the whole dash out:( Give yourself plenty of time and label everything up as you remove it. Take lots of photos and beware of airbags. You only want to do this once, so put a decent replacement...

    Freelander 1 Noisy power steering

Not by a noticeable amount. There will be a slight variation as the fluid pumps around the system, but it shouldn't rise and fall. This would indicate a failing pipe or pump. Mike

    Freelander 1 Skinny Mike's TD4 ES Auto

Well what happened was: Had a knocking noise from the rear. On closer inspection it was the rear offside drive shaft and the diff dif chucking it's oil everywhere, so no big deal me thinks, new shaft and oil seals and think about taking the diff to bits and rebuild it. Then on a drive home...

    Freelander 1 Skinny Mike's TD4 ES Auto

So, I hear you all shout (or not!) What are you driving around in now to replace the tremendous Freelander. Erm, This: Stop laughing. A mighty Mitsubishi Mirage? What, never heard of it, not surprised really. It's the replacement for the good old Colt. Bad points: Numb steering Minimal sound...

    steering rack help please

Steering rack failure was a problem on early production Freelanders, not on 52 plate models. You need to check the lugs in the bulkhead are secure and tight, the main cylinder should not move. Iirc there are 2 large bolts on the left as you look from the front, then a smaller clip with 2 smaller...

Freelander 1 Auto box stuck in 1st for a few hundred yards.

The thing is with the autobox speed sensor (VSS) is it likes to throw fault codes even when it's working fine! So guessing if it's dying or not is a bit difficult. Mike

Freelander 1 Auto box stuck in 1st for a few hundred yards.

I've had it stick in 3rd once, but that was sorted out by slowing down and crawling for 100 yards or so til it changed down. Got to say, this hot weather probably hasn't helped, mines farting about and lumping through gears once it's been running for 20 minutes. It's just not used to dealing...

And check the road tax. You might find that ones £500 a year:eek: Mike

    Newbee again

Ooh that made me laugh "Ultra smooth auto box" in your dreams. Anyway, on a serious note. Looks really nice, and it needs to for that price. I would want to take it on an extended test drive, minimum half an hour. 70000 miles in 12 years means it's been doing short trips, or parked up for long...
