I haven't ignored anything, I've compression tested it. All 6 cylinders stable and with 10psi of each other at around 450psi from memory when cold and 430psi with the same varience when warm. Compression increased with oil in the bores which would tell me that the rings are ok.

I love the noise and the instant grunt of the a v8 too
If I don't get to the bottom of this issue it will be getting pulled for either an m57, or a v8

compression tested ok, nice and even across the board and the same hot/cold as well. good call on the stop solenoid as well, I'll pull the plunger out and try it again.
If you don't like the fact that I have a mechanical pump on it, you certainly won't like that its in what's left of a disco 1...

Just to confirm my original post, I can start the truck from cold perfectly and it will idle and run fine. It will run until warm, BUT if I shut it off it will not restart even instantly. It just cranks.

its still on the original chains, and they had stretched a bit when I checked the timing. I reset the cam timing to where the 4.5mm spacer fitted underneath the inlet side of the cam fixture, and the injection pump is set properly too. I assumed this would "adjust out" the error caused by...

yeah the glow plugs are on an override switch for diagnosis. I am using ngk ones though rather than the beru ones that people seem to like here?

I have to confess I don't like the easy start method of getting it going but it certainly does help with diagnostics sometimes, and that's all I use it for.
I don't pump it through there, I give it a light mist as suggested. since the issue has arisen it has been started warm only a few times...
