    pattern parts versus landrover parts

People forget that genuine does not necessarily mean best. It means cheapest that could be got away with during production. Certainly I regard britpart wheel bearings as consumables, like diesel.

    Looking for a Discovery 1

I wouldn't worry about buying a write-off, given the current market value of D1s, it does not take much damage to get them written off. Ones that were written off when worth more will more likely be decently repaired.

classic manual gears or auto ?

The big question is why do anything. You can do things to please you, or you can not do things to leave it as a potential all-original investment. Happy now, or (maybe) cash later? Given the state of the market I think you are unlikely to cause a drop in value (doing the conversion and any...

whats the worst that can happen :)

Another vote for security first. Needless to say if they really really want it, a HIAB and bulldozer will help them get it, but certainly make life as difficult as possible. GPS trackers and home CCTV are relatively cheap for when/if physical security fails. Even an old laptop with webcam and...

Lots and lots of white smoke

https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/tdv8-stalled-2xnew-turbo-fitted-engine-siezed-immediately-in-garage-my-bad-luck-apparantly.305512/ Just make sure everything else is working as it should, and properly primed where necessary.

Preparations for COLD - minus 5c

-5 is only a winters evening in parts of Scotland. -15 is not really so cold overnight, I remember a flight transfer at Minneapolis airport and popping out for a smoke and the temp was -34c at 4pm :( You can make some nice "thermal blankets" for batteries out of the cheap folding silver...

    Tyre choose FREELANDER 2

It would make technical sense if they were the softest ride, after all air compresses way quicker and easier than steel, and it was fitted at the "luxury" end of the range initially where comfort trumps cost. The softest ride I ever had was an old Citroen, it was so soft I got seasick. Sticking...

    Tyre choose FREELANDER 2

As you never got long enough to drive the dunlops to the point you normally suffer, it is not entirely reasonable to purely blame tyre brands. A combination of smaller rim and higher profile tyre is almost always a softer ride, so if you have 19s on, try finding some 16s. A quick look suggests...

    Disco 1 Protection

It could depend on your driving style. For a "whoops just in case", aluminum is quite possibly sufficient, for foot planted approaches to every potential obstacle, steel may be the better bet. For areas that may just be dragged rather than take an impact, thick aluminium should be sufficient.

The Police did nothing as far as l can tell.

Old lady mugged at knife point while cop guards empty car. That's an alternative headline. Cops are a finite resource, and thanks to public and government demands there are less of them around than ever.. Of course we could have a cop on every street corner, dealing with every little thing...

    quick jate ring question

Very little aftermarket is suitable for snatch recovery, be it add on rings or even a factory towbar. The loads can be immense. Axle deep in mud a disco1 has an effective weight of at least 5 tonnes double that or more for chassis deep. That's the straight pull loading, add in the shock loading...

    Series 3 ,

The points system is pretty well buttoned down. People have been looking for loopholes for a very long time now. Even if you do get away with it, which I very much doubt, insurance companies are going to be rubbing their hands with glee at the kind of premiums for such a modified vehicle...

    Vins and Engine #s Question

Match what? Match each other? Match the current paperwork? Match the original production numbers? I can see issues if they don't match current paperwork, thats an offence here. Likewise I can understand matching the original production numbers as a type approval issue.

    getting 265/75/r16 tyres to fit

Oh dear. Non-standard tyre sizes = modification = must be declared to insurers. Potential risks can include, vehicle seizure for no insurance, trying to get fresh insurance with a modified vehicle and IN10 on a licence is rather pricey never mind the fine and retrieval costs. Potential...
