OK, I looked at a diagram and it looked like an access panel on the front once you got the rad out of the way :(

This might be a dopey question, I'm good at those!!, but why would you not fit new timing chains, is it just too big a job?

    A Challenge To Mechanics

Is this easy to do, do you need any specialist equipment to do it, as I think you are right and this is the problem I have with mine.

Cheers Wammers, I did ask about the crank sensor when I picked it up and was told if it was faulty it would of shown up, but who knows, what seems weird to me is that it will be ticking over sweet as a nut, then the revs will suddenly drop, like somethings suddenly put a load on the engine, but...

Update Just picked it up from the land rover main dealer, and they can't find out what's wrong with it!!! The only fault code was that the injector settings were off, which they corrected, but the revs still drop suddenly when idling, and it sometimes stalls when you put it in gear. There are...

I'll stand corrected on that then by people who know a lot more than me :), new MAP is fitted, has made a difference, more power but still not right, I'm going to isolate the EGR with a penny tomorrow, too much rugby to watch today :), and see if that makes a difference. Fault seems to have...

    A Challenge To Mechanics

Finally got some help from a RR dealer (Stratsone in Newport Pagnell) and they've ordered the part, £76, if that's not the problem I'll fit it Sat and if that doesn't sort it out, main dealer for diagnostics on Tuesday!!

    A Challenge To Mechanics

Datatek, I've got no fault codes, that's the problem, nothing comes up on the diagnostics, had it in to 2 independant garages, no joy, and I've heard that the MAP sensor doesn't show up, hence the reson for me changing it.

Out of interest has anyone got the correct part number for it, mine has 2244 674 on the top and is a BMW part, not surprisingly, but one dealer has told me the part number is 2246 084, this is the obsolete one!!

    A Challenge To Mechanics

Hmmmm, just rang upa RR main dealer to be told the MAP sensor on that engine is obsulete and they can't get it any more!!! Think I'll try a different dealer or a BMW dealer.

    A Challenge To Mechanics

OK with the MAP disconnected I get more power, but the engine still suddenly dies on tick over, would it being disconnected cause this . The pipe has no splits and isn't blocked, so I'm going to fit a new MAP sensor and EGR valve, as that was blocked off, and go from there.

    A Challenge To Mechanics

Sorry got my EGR valve and MAF sensor confused when typing!! :o I've now deleted that post as it was pretty garbled!!

    A Challenge To Mechanics

OK, updtae, disconnected the MAF sensor and that made no difference, so then took the EGR valve out, found a penny blocking the hose so someone had already tried this, and that made no difference, other than ticking over at about 1000rpm instead of 800rpm, so it didn't stall in gear any more...

    A Challenge To Mechanics

The engine does seem slow to respond to the throttle, in that it doesn't rev for a split second after the throttle is pressed, as this is the first RR I've owned, I'm not sure if this is standard.

    A Challenge To Mechanics

Cheers Wammers, I'll check it out, but 2 garages have had it hooked up and they both say nothing is coming up as faulty.
