Iv been working on my 2004 freelander. I replaced some hoses. removed and replaced alternator. I put it all back together turn the key and no noise from starter. lights come on. fuses not bad. Starter works with hot wire, but not from key. Help please

Thanks for the welcome guys. Should I have posted the question somewhere else? I was not sure. I have had little extra time lately. I also should have taken the Freelander to a mechanic. It is the family car and it is taking me a lot longer than I hopped.
