Evening All, Been noticing a squeely chicken sound coming from the Landy recently... Driving around high or low speed and I lift off the throttle it squeels and whines like someone is stranging a chicken. If I dip the clutch the noise instantly stops. Its a 99 TD5 and have changed both...

Easy tiger.... Just picking the knowledgeable brains of these here landy folk, who have been extremely helpful so far. Sorry if my genuine need for some extra helping hands is getting in the way of your 'whats the fishing like' questions!

Is that a clean it job or bin and replace? If clean it where does that little bugger live?

OK guys these are the latest logged faults :D Aircon Fan drive open load Tacho Drive open load Aircon Clutch drive open load EGR Valve stuck closed Engine speed outside bounds for cruise Vehicle speed outside bounds for cruise Landy doesn't have Aircon or Tacho or EGR so no worries there...

Seems to be better when on boost - difficult to drive it without having to hit the gas hard enough to keep it off boost. Borrowed a different MAP sensor and it didn't seem to make any difference... :(

Ahh yep sorry guys in my old thread linked somewhere in this one, I have changed all the turbo hoses for flashy silicon ones and also the MAF for a new shiny genuine LR one :D Think the later disco TD5 had electronic wastegates but the Defenders are all manual. could be wrong though, either way...

Yes and no!! Typical unhelpful reply!! :D It did struggle maintaining speed and momentum uphill but now it's there on all runs, having to keep right foot hard down to keep her going when in gear. Did the coasting thing again on the way home. Coasted for 1/2 mile slowing gently. No noises or...

Great stuff thanks guys... Wasn't 100% sure it was a turbo prob, i was suffering with the TD5 oily loom etc and rough performance. Following the search results has led me to many different conclusions and I have changed and cleaned a lot of bits. Now I know the turbo is boosting 1.1bar I guess...

OK so my boost gauge turned up today and she is boosting and holding 1.1bar.... think thats about right. but no negative boost pressure - this could be my lack of knowledge of turbo diesels but on my other turbo'd cars when the car is at idle the boost gauge shows -1.8 bar and then +1.8 bar...

Also overboost fault seemed to clear and not return but only had 2 mile test run in traffic. Am going to get a retest done if prob still there next week
