So would taking out the pinion wheel gear thingy and fitting a blanking plate 'cure' my fault ?

Thanks for your replies. Yes, the prop came with the car. It was running fine before I fitted the prop, no noises or anything.

the boot should be big enough to store the spare alfa gearbox in too, cos it WILL need one at some point
